This Psychic Reading given by Edgar Cayce at the David E. Kahn home, 20 Woods Lane, Scarsdale, N.Y., this 8th day of November, 1937, in accordance with request made by the self - Miss [1463], through recommendation and sponsorship of Mrs. Milton W. Harrison, Active Member of the Ass''n for Research & Enlightenment, Inc.

R E A D I N G

Born September 16, 1878, just below Alexandria, Va. Time of Reading % Mrs. Harrison, 4:10 to 5:10 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., N.Y.

1. GC: [1463], present in this room, name at birth [1463]; born - according to her knowledge and the information copy of which I hold in my hand - either Sept. 15th or 16th around somewhere in the 1870's, some place in the southern part of the United States.

2. EC: (In going back over years from present - " - '33 - yes, confusions; but some pleasant memories - '32 - '31 - " etc., on back to birth date) (Also, when coming back to 1926, said "Most exhilarating!") ("Yes, just below Alexandria here - September 16, 1878.")

3. We have the records here of that entity now known as or called [1463].

4. An unusual - a very beautiful record of expression, but not appreciated as much as it should be.

5. We would give the interpretations from the records as we find may be helpful for the entity in the present, though many would be the gainer if the entity would interpret their purposes in THEIR experiences.

6. However - we will give what we find here.

7. In the astrological aspects we find Venus and Jupiter as those environs from which much of the beauty of interpretation of conditions, experiences, nature, is drawn by the entity - more than from things.

8. Hence the influences of the activity of the entity must deal with the individual emotions, rather than those things that become mathematical, astrological, numerological or even synthetic; while the metaphysical and spiritual and creative in nature become a part of the entity's manner or means of expressing itself.

9. When the entity allows things, then, or even personalities, to become a part of the entity's thought or

purpose, there comes a lack of continuity in the activities or the abilities of the entity to give expression to those influences or beauties from which the soul forces are able to draw.

10. The inclination of the entity from the natures of Neptune is for psychic influences or forces to arise.

11. Hence we will find that certain characters of waters - as springs, lakes, rivers - become as music in the creative forces, through which the entity may employ words to show the attunement to which the soul may arise in giving expression.

12. Sky and sea become rather as distant, yet these are as the background of much when it comes to that which would be tumultuous in the expressions of the emotions that are aroused from the sojourns in the earth.

13. Hence we have found, in the experience of the entity, those conditions where the astrological influences from the innate urges and the influences from the sojourns in the material plane, from which the emotions of the consciousness arise, have become conflicting at times; yet at others rather in unison of purpose and activity.

14. We will find, then, while the innate or the psychic forces of self will find expression from the astrological urges, the material sojourns bring the characterization of expression by the entity in the material application of the ideas or ideals to be depicted or expressed.

15. Hence we will find the urges from the sojourns in the earth bringing an awakening through the DREAMS, as it were; not in those periods when sleep or that sense of aloofness arises but when the unconsciousness of a consciousness arises which brings rather the vividness of beauty of expression. These bring a part of the entity into its abilities for expression.

16. As to the appearances in the earth, and those as we find that make for the abilities of the entity in the present, and that which applied may bring a greater harmonious expression, we find:

17. For a foreknowledge, a forewarning - these may bring those experiences where the consciousness or awareness of that influence that might deter, or that influence that makes for growth, may be the choice of the mental self.

18. For MIND is the Builder, and as its currents run - through those forces of the natural expressions through that felt - they build miracles in the experiences of these that keep that oneness of purpose for BEING the expression of Creative Forces in the experience and lives of others.

19. Before this, then, we find the entity was in the English

land - where there are the lakes, the beauties of the Irish land about Killarney.

20. The entity was active in those experiences when there were the journeyings of many to other lands, when there were the turmoils that arose during those periods preceding what to the entity was - now, in its own sojourn - the American land.

21. The entity made much of song, much of poetry, much of that which was produced within the experiences and the hearts and the minds of those that were separated from their loved ones by the distant waters.

22. Hence that background that arose from which the entity in itself in the present may find that the cooling waters of lake or stream or rill are preferable to the mighty ways of the salty ocean, for expression of harmony and peace, and the love that maketh unafraid those that face the trials of a materiality in the experiences in matter.

23. The name then was Annelia O'Harra.

24. In the experience the entity gained. Sad in body, in mind, yet in the ability to give that which would arouse the longings in the hearts and minds in song and verse brought forth that which is active in the present.

25. For there are the abilities in the expressions in such ways and manners, in the present, that individuals may look within their own souls and see the lights that are lit by the fires of nature as well as the longings of the soul that may find expression in the fusions of these in such measures and manners as to bring materiality into a burning influence in the lives, in the experience of others.

26. Before that we find the entity was in the land of its own present nativity, in and about that portion of same now known as the Ohio land; the western Pennsylvania land; the lands of those people that were a part of those from the southwest that brought to the land not exactly a negation of thought but rather the means, the manners, the ways, the places for greater expression; in the beauties that pertain to the creating in the home, in the gatherings, in what would be called the state, the colony, the tribe; the peoples at the time that brought greater appreciation of the beauties of nature.

27. The entity then was what would today be called a sculpturist, in the name then Sana Dohn.

28. In the experience the entity made for that which has brought and does bring into the experience in the present an appreciation, as it were, of the outdoors; that necessity of the freedom of activity, the freedom of thought, the freedom of expressions in same.

29. Those were the periods in which the entity found the channels for giving out that of self that was not only of material sacrifice but endearing self and self's activity to those associations that brought help and hope to those of the land.

30. Before that we find the entity was in what is now known as the Promised Land, during those periods when there were the preparations for the coming of the teacher, the lowly one, yet the Great I AM into the experience of flesh - that man might again have an advocate with the divine that had grown so far away to the hearts of those that were lost in the toils of the day.

31. There the entity was among those peoples about the land of Bethany, during that period when Martha, Mary, and Lazarus; Jesus, the disciples; Peter, James, John, Andrew, Bartholomew, Philip, Thomas and the others made many pilgrimages to and from the various portions of the land.

32. The entity then was of those lands from which Bartholomew was drawn, was taken for his activities among the peoples.

33. Hence the entity was in association with Mary, the mother; with the daughter and sons of Joseph and Mary, that made for those influences which brought the beauties into the experiences of man during that sojourn.

34. The entity was active in the sect of the Essenes. Thus, as would be called, the entity was among the holy women - even at the days when they stood beneath the Cross, the days when they waited on those who had been persecuted, stoned and beaten for a cause.

35. Hence is there any wonder that the solemnity and beauty of the lakes in Ireland, or the beauties of nature in the lands of the next sojourn, brought for the entity those ways or means of freedom, and the need of same for the soul to know its Maker the better?

36. In the experience the entity was called Sardenia (?), but the name was Marlan.

37. The activities of the entity made for the strength as of stone. For the entity gave much in self during the experience.

38. Hence in the present the beauties of suffering, yea the beauties of longings, may be depicted by the entity's activity in such a manner as to arouse TO action those who have not taken thought of time or patience.

39. Before that we find the entity was in that land now called the Arabian and Persian, during those periods when there was the building of a place for the ill, the badly treated, they that were without home, without friend.

40. There the entity aided in ministering to those, learning of the many lands, the many characters of activity in the Egyptian, the Persian, the Carpathian, the Indian, and the far away On and Og; and the peoples of that known as the Chinee [Chinese] and the Siam and the Tibetan land.

41. For the entity made into verse and song there that which brought to each of those that were being ministered to in the body, the awareness of the beauties even of those far away places.

42. Is it any wonder then that the more the entity may find expression in the present is in the bringing to the young and old, and especially to those that are shut in, and those that are halt and maimed, the words of cheer? And these stressed in the present will find greater and more beautiful ways of expressions that will cause many to call the entity blessed. The entity in the experience then was called Vasta.

43. Before that we find the entity was in the land now known as the Egyptian, when there were the after effects or the activities after the Rebellion, and the gatherings of the peoples for the greater services of correlating activities in many lands.

44. The entity was among those from the Temple Beautiful, who became an emissary to what was later known as the Persian land.

45. As to the abilities of the entity in the present, then, and that to which it may attain, and how:

46. Listen oft to those harkenings from the experiences in the varied activities of the individual soul through those experiences in the earth. The songs, the poems, the experiences of those may become more and more a part of the entity. And thus there is found that indeed it is all a portion of a whole, that the soul is seeking light, the soul is seeking the wings of the morning for opportunities being opened for those who have lost their way, those who through the afflictions of the body are kept from the material activities - who may again see in the mental self that freedom from which only the physical forces separate.

47. For though these may become as a part of the experiences, the mental self may be so revived by the songs, the poems, the writings of the entity of these things, that new hope takes hold upon the hearts and souls of men.

48. Yea, this is the work - in these phases of the activities to those that are shut in, to those that are hemmed by material things - to let the soul and the mind soar to those beauties that are found in the vistas of the meditation, and the experiences of that which has made the

activities of the entity so worth while throughout the eons of activity in this particular place, or PHASE of the soul's development.

49. Love truth, beauty, honor - the Lord, though, more than these.

50. Ready for questions.

51. (Q) On what course of action shall I concentrate, NOW IN THIS PRESENT MOMENT, GIVING TO IT MY FULL ENERGIES, in order to swiftly further the work the CREATOR wishes me to perform? (A) Through those channels that have been intimated for the entity, in those associations or fields with others that make for a means or channel of meting or giving the beauty of self; and in giving the expression in the writings, the poems, especially to those of the various phases of human experience that have from one cause or another been denied the activity among the material expressions.

52. (Q) Will it be constructive and proper for me to have a LIFE READING for John [...]? (A) Only by the permission of the entity [...], because of that in and through which the self may have received by such an experience.

53. (Q) Was there a basic, divine reason for the seeming holdup of my activities this past summer, which KEPT ME IN COLORADO for the entire vacation season - five months - or was this holdup due to any lack of understanding on my part? Did my mother, on the other side of life, influence me for my own good to remain in COLORADO SPRINGS, or my father - also on the other side - detain me in that region for some special benefit to me and to others? (A) If there is put into activity or expression in the song or verse, or poems, that lesson gained - ye will catch a vision that it is indeed true, He hath given His angels charge concerning thee. And that being guided by those influences and forces, they become - by application - stepping-stones for greater beauties, and the abilities for greater service. HELD, yes. If ye make use of same, wonderful! If ye lose the purport, not so well.

54. (Q) Was there some unknown health reason which required my stay in Colorado? (A) The reasons for this we do not find confined only to the body. These may be approached the greater - the physical or health reasons - by the body-analysis; but from the mental angle the reason was that a greater vision of loneliness, a greater vision of friends, a greater vision of divine love, was gained by the experience.

Then, in SHARING it with those who are hindered by material activity from knowing such, ye gain the more from same.

55. (Q) Has there been in past lives any association with the entity now known as Rev. Adna Moore, pastor of the Second Congregational Church in COLORADO SPRINGS? (A) In Ohio, in Egypt.

56. (Q) Is it probable or correct for me to receive money from him in this life? (A) Correct and probable - very probable. In the use of same, it becomes only an expression of appreciation and love. Use not for other than giving to others the beauty of the abilities of self to see the vistas of the mountain tops of joy, and life in an experience of service though it may mean perhaps toil or strife, though it may mean sacrifices from the standpoint of those things that materially seem so a part of life. But life is earnest, life is true - and that which each soul experiences is a part of that necessary, if it will be used as such and not looked upon as a drudge or as a hindrance. Whom the Lord loveth He cherisheth, whom the Lord loveth He chastiseth, whom the Lord loveth He raiseth up to opportunities. If ye have shown and do show thyself worthy, then ye become even as the Son that ye saw, that ye worshipped with - though ye be the sons, the daughters of the living God, yet learn ye - as the world, yea as the universe - obedience through suffering.

57. (Q) How soon is this likely to materialize and to what extent? (A) In the latter portion of the coming year, or by the mid-summer. As to the extent, this may depend upon self and as to how close may be the associations or relations, and the help and the hope that is given through the activities of self in that direction.

58. (Q) Is there any specific cooperation I can offer to hasten results? (A) Helpfulness in encouragement as to the activities of a service in the field of activity.

59. (Q) Is it right for me to return to my headquarters at THE [...] SCHOOL? If so, when? (A) When there is the call from within self that there are those needs for ministering farther through those channels towards that opened by the association. Not until then.

60. (Q) What is the most favorable locality for the

pursuance of my immediate work? (A) As has been indicated so oft, where there are lakes and streams that partake of the coolness of the mountain dew, the snow; yea, the temperings of nature upon the very elements - and nature itself in activity; these bring into the very being the means of expression. Just as the tempering of the particles that are drawn from the earth, and that are shoved into heat, then hammered and put again into coolness to make for the tempering - for a usefulness. These natures, these environs. Hence the changes that come, by high commercialized centers, yea and those that are as far away where only the night forces may be heard. All of these may ever be a part of self, for the greater expression.

61. (Q) What has been my association in past lives with the entity known as Mrs. Abby Sutherland Brown, widow; now president of the Ogontz School and Junior College at RYDAL, Pennsylvania? (A) In Palestine, in the sojourns in the land of the lakes - or the Irish land.

62. (Q) Was my gesture in resigning from the title of POET LAUREATE of the GENERAL FEDERATION OF WOMEN'S CLUBS OF THIS UNITED STATES (A NATIONAL HONOR BESTOWED UPON ME OVER A YEAR AGO) IN ACCORD WITH MY LIFE PLAN? (A) This must be answered from within self. The activities, as we have indicated, are with the masses. These must be approached through the activities that bring about the better abilities for service, for joy and hope from self flowing to others. This gesture, as we find, was the obeying of an impulse. As to whether this is to become the greater gesture for help or for woe remains yet to be seen.

63. (Q) Shall I give further of my energies to the crusade I started for my fellow poets? (A) THIS is a wonderful gesture! Rather make it the crusade for the recognition of such that are physically helpless.

purpose served by my early marriage, a step taken by me rather against my better judgement, yet one I seemed impelled by predestination or other force to carry through? If not divinely ordained, why did this marriage occur? "What was the real purpose of that TREMENDOUS URGE FOR HUMANITARIAN ACTION WHICH POSSESSED ME BUT WHICH WAS DIVERTED BY MY DEAR MOTHER, WHO SUFFERED GREATLY BECAUSE OF IT? IS THIS SOMETHING YET TO BE ACCOMPLISHED BY ME, AND IF SO, IN WHAT MANNER? WHY WAS I GIVEN THIS URGE UNLESS IT WAS TO DEVELOP INTO DEFINITE ACTION? MY FAILURE TO ACT AT THAT TIME CREATED A SHARP CLEAVAGE IN MY LIFE PATTERN. THE URGE ITSELF WAS NOT APPROVED BY MY MOTHER: CAUSED HER KEEN SUFFERING AND MAY HAVE HASTENED HER DEATH. "Has the time come for me to take another name in doing my writing? "What was meant by the vision recently of the marathon runner who said 'HELD for a name!' seeming to refer to my work being held up?"]
