Time of Reading 3:50 to 4:15 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. New York City. (Entity, who seeks detailed information concerning her Philadelphia sojourn as EDITH MAXWOLL, covering her biographical life, education and background, work and associations, names of parents and brothers and sisters, if any, from the entity's entrance to her departure. You will also give the developing or retarding associations and influences of that plane which bear on the present life, and how they may best be used in the present experience for the entity's highest development and service. Questions.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the records of that entity now known as [1468], and the record as Edith Maxwoll - later Edith Abercrombie in the experience.
2. In giving the biographical sketch, the interpretations of the record are with the intent to make more understandable and practical in application the urges and experiences that arise, which - as has been indicated - find manifestation in the emotions of the body.
3. These the more often give expression through the sensory forces, or may come even at times to the entity as intuitive feelings and emotions.
4. In that experience the entity was among those of the group or sect called Friends; who came from near what is now Oslo, Norway, and settled in that builded as the "city of brotherly love."
5. The entity was young in years - only four - when it came into the new environ and surrounding. There was one other child, a brother, at the time - older than the entity.
6. The mother in the present was the younger sister as born in the new land. Hence the active forces that have made for the companionship of a nature wherein there has been both the dependence and somewhat of an aloofness.
7. The parents' names were Abigail and Joseph - not Joseph as it is called or was called here, but Norwegian; called Joda (?) in the land from which the entity came.
8. The entity was fair, and inclined to be rather of that type, as would be said - fair of hair, long especially, and
1468-4 Page 2
a crowning glory; as this, of course, was a portion of the experiences of that group in the early periods.
9. We find that the entity was educated very much by the mother, as well as those who were closely associated with some of the leaders of the group; especially the father of the one who became the companion later in the experience.
10. We do not find that companion - Adolph Abercrombie - in the material experience in the present.
11. As to the activities, the background of the entity during that sojourn:
12. The entity was rather active in the early influences of the group as a sect. Hence the entity was well acquainted with all the activities pertaining to a well-regulated household that was self-reliant, self-dependent; and the natural tendency was for the entity in its middle teen years to become a teacher or director of others - as its intent or bent was TOWARDS the greater activity in what would be termed in the present a capacity as a teacher or a psychoanalyst or one that would direct the training of individuals (men and girls) in their vocational activities.
13. Hence those activities of weaving, basket making, homemaking, cooking - all of those things pertaining to same were taught by the entity.
14. The entity was wedded in the nineteenth year of the experience in the land; hence it was twenty-three years old when it became married.
15. Home building, homemaking was still a portion of the entity's activities; for in those early periods many of the group activities were held in common as to the incomes from labors. However, the homes were held very much in the direction of being directed by the head, or the man of the house.
16. As to the influences from that sojourn that bear upon the emotions of the entity in the present:
17. We find the orderliness; not so much finicky in its own surroundings, but neatness, orderliness, and the dislike of breaking a routine that may be set for self.
18. The gaining and the losing influence came more from the activities with the greater groups in the middle or latter portion of the experience during that sojourn.
19. Hence those questionings that arise in the present experiences of the entity when there is the tendency for others, because of position or class or group, to in any manner lord over others; no matter whether it has any direct application to the entity itself or to those with whom the entity may be only associated or acquainted.
20. For as has been indicated, the great seeking of those
1468-4 Page 3
with whom the entity was associated during that period was religious freedom; which, with the character and the nature of the group, included freedom of ALL characters; yet with that very same impetus that becomes a part of the entity's experience in making for those activities with others in peace and harmony.
21. Because of the disturbing forces, in the present experience of the entity these become rather of the nature where the entity - rather than face the issue - would withdraw from conditions that would become disturbing in the MENTAL forces which the entity sets as its ideal or of an idealistic nature.
22. Hence we find those forces that become rather as those to be builded upon, others where there must be - as has been indicated for the entity - the setting of the standards in spiritual activities.
23. The abilities of the entity in that experience to gather data upon which future conditions might be judged, make for the abilities in the present having to do with secretarial activities in which there may be the guiding by the entity of that which is well on the part of others; whether pertaining to social or material or even a commercial nature.
24. The very activity made for those influences which make for the surety within its own economic environ or surrounding. This is well, if not carried to extremes.
25. But the greater help, the greater aid the entity may have in the mental and spiritual development from that sojourn is in enabling others to gain that equilibrium between the mental and the spiritual for the greater assurance of the answering of the influences upon the individual self, or arousing to the consciousness of the spirit of good within.
26. Ready for questions.
27. (Q) Did I play the piano, if so, how well? (A) It was not the piano, more the spinet then - or that which BECAME the piano; and this VERY well. More were there the instruments in the home and in the environs of the entity's activities such as those of the reeds and such natures. The entity played the spinet very well.
28. (Q) Are my parents of that incarnation in this present experience, if so, what are their names? (A) Only the one as we find; the mother in the present was in that incarnation the sister - the younger sister.
29. (Q) Are my other brothers and sisters of that incarnation (if any) in this experience, if so, what are their names?
1468-4 Page 4
(A) We do not find such a close association in the present as to indicate names, but apparently there have been associations and activities with those of that incarnation.
30. (Q) Has my husband of that incarnation been in my present experience? (A) As indicated, the husband's name then was Adolph Abercrombie; and in the present HAS been associated with the entity as a friend - NOT as a husband.
31. (Q) Are there any records available relating to the entity Edith Maxwoll and her activities, family, etc., at that time, if so, where may they be found? (A) These as we find have been private rather than public records. Records of the activities of the early Friends would show same. We do not find them as connected with the entity in the present. There may be periods when these may be found.
32. (Q) Were my human mother and father, [...] and [...], associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) As indicated, the one. The other we do not find other than the association in some capacity, but as to what - it is not given or indicated in the record of the entity here.
33. (Q) Was [294] associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) Known of, but not physically associated.
34. (Q) Was my aunt, [...], associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) One of those to whom the entity reported as the teacher - and not always were these very pleasant encounters; though made pleasant by the determining in self to keep peace.
35. (Q) Was Sherman B. Joost associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) As we find he was the keeper of what would today be called the garrison, or the common storehouse of that particular group or sect.
36. (Q) Was Beresford Shope associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) We do not find this other than a contact, but as to the association it is not indicated.
37. (Q) Was Ernest Otto associated with me in that experience, if so, in what way? (A) We do not find it by that name. There are many associations. Remember, the records are of the entity, rather than those as of contacts by entering INTO associations. As we find, Otto was a minister, or what we would call rather the leader of part of the group - and a friend of the entity.
1468-4 Page 5
38. (Q) Any other information regarding my experience then that would be of help to me now? (A) Much INFORMATION might be had, but this - as for information - had best be by questions. As has been indicated, to make the experience as a living one, enter into thy silence with that desire to be shown the faults as well as the virtues, that the self may be a continuous development towards being that the Creative Forces would have thee to do in the present. For as the promise has been, "If ye abide in me, I will bring to thy remembrance all things."
