1. GC: You will have before you the H. S. Marean-Miller Property located in Culpepper County between the towns of Culpepper and Fredericksburg and about two miles from Richardsville, Virginia; and also the interest of Mr. [1561] in this property through J. E. Cully. Considering the information given Mr. [1561] on mining properties on July 30, 1938 [1561-3], through this Channel, you will advise him regarding the value of this property and answer the questions he has submitted.
2. EC: Yes, we have the properties and the information, and those activities in relationships to same.
3. These as we find in some respects as a speculation might be said to be HIGHLY valuable. As to the actual worth, these as we find would be just a little bit more than sufficient in the value to pay for the actual operations - if there is the ability for this not to be too costly in sending to smelters.
4. As we find, these in the ledges - as has been seen - are the more valuable than those in the shaft sunk; though there are small portions or pockets in the shaft that will be very, very valuable - producing something like eighty - yes, in the very best to seventy-nine to eighty-nine per ton.
5. However, the greater portion will be much, much less.
6. Hence the whole proposition is not so much in the mining of same but in smeltering.
7. Ready for questions.
8. (Q) Would this property be suitable and profitable to take over for operation under the "principle" we contemplate? (A) Not exceedingly profitable or valuable; but rather in those ways and manners as we have indicated. If it is feasible to have same smelted without too great an expense, would be valuable as a property. As a speculation, quite valuable.
9. (Q) How may it best be obtained?
1561-5 Page 2
(A) Through those channels that are opened for same. But their connections and their operations that have been a part of activities must be carefully guarded, if there is the consideration of taking same over.
10. (Q) What was the gas encountered there by Mr. [1561] in the shaft of this mine on Sunday, July 31, 1938? (A) Air damp!
11. (Q) Why did this happen and what is the lesson to be gained? (A) Stay out of places you don't know what's in! and test all such before entering!
12. (Q) Any other suggestions for the body at this time, or regarding this property? (A) These are the conditions as we find them. As to the conclusions, these should be drawn by the body.
