Time of Reading 3:30 to 4:00 P. M. Eastern Standard Time. ..., N.J.

1. GC: You will have before you the body and enquiring mind of Mr. [1561], ..., N.J., in regard to the following: Again referring to my mining interests at Philipsburg, Montana and the conditions which surround them; to Timothy Nolan and Clinton J. Hansen, Superintendant, and their intents and attitudes towards me, and their abilities to perform, and to the attitude and intents of Philipsburg Mining Company of St. Louis, Mo., Mr. L. S. Mitchell, President, the owners of the properties we have leased, etc., as generally given in reading of July 30, 1938: You will answer the following questions regarding same, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, Mr. [1561]; this we have had before.

3. Ready for questions.

4. (Q) Nolan and Hansen have never paid more than 1/2 of the minimum monthly royalty as required in my contract with them, and evidence a desire and possible intent to avoid paying the full monthly requirement or of recognizing the amount (in excess of Nine thousand dollars) which they are now in arrears to me. WHAT should be my attitude and procedure? (A) As we find, it would be well to engage counsel and personally interview these gentlemen. As we find, these INTEND to be correct in their associations - but the conditions which have existed, and in view of arrears in other directions, have caused them to ASSUME the attitude. We would see them, with counsel.

5. (Q) Would you advise my going now to Montana to confer with them? (A) Advise to go at once.

6. (Q) My Companies, in turn, owe Nolan sixty-five hundred dollars. It seems a fair procedure that this amount should be credited against the amount which they are in arrears to me and the balance of some three thousand dollars paid to me

promptly. SHOULD I propose this adjustment and WILL Nolan and Hansen accept it? (A) As we find, (with some understandings as will arise in the general conversation, and the alterations), this should be agreeable. And such a proposition would be well to be considered by all.

7. (Q) As a part of such adjustment should I now DEMAND an immediate resumption of the full monthly royalty in accordance with our agreement? (A) We find that this may be worked out according to the needs of the ores and the productions in the present, and be a consistent, orderly condition for all, when eventually settled in these ways.

8. (Q) Insofar as I have "leaned over backwards" to cooperate, to "play ball" with them, and it appears as though they may be taking advantage of me, I should like to know if there is some legal or other reason that Hansen or Nolan can utilize to jeopardize or make void any part of their agreement with me, or enable them to refuse to recognize my "rights" under said agreement? (A) As we find, from the papers - with a perfect understanding - there need not be any litigation or trouble in getting these adjusted in a satisfactory manner - in a fair manner.

9. (Q) In view of possible changed conditions, I would like to repeat the following questions as asked in the July '38 reading: i.e., How long may I depend upon income from these Montana interests? (A) For at least two and a half to three years - now.

10. (Q) MAY I depend upon Timothy Nolan of Butte, Montana, in his dealings with me and in his ability to carry through? (A) When this is once settled, by the actually being on the ground, and a general agreement - we may find these should be satisfactory.

11. (Q) May I depend upon the Superintendant, Clinton J. Hansen? (A) These should be satisfactory, or should be made so.

12. (Q) Is all perfectly regular in regard to any sub-leases which Hansen may have made and particularly with one Tom Zelio? (A) These as we find will need some adjusting with the new commands or demands, and the activities of the GENERAL nature as will be a process through the renewed activities as would or should be carried on.

13. (Q) Shall I have any further use for our Camp and homestead at Moose Lake, near Philipsburg, Montana? (A) As we find, this may be used this coming year, or the next also, or even further.

14. (Q) Should I retain legal advice before going west? (A) As indicated, this would be well, for it to be WITH counsel, or those understanding the whole situation.

15. (Q) Should I continue effort in behalf of any of the following endeavors, which so far have proven fruitless of results; i.e., The Texas oil of Dr. [2246]? [See 1561-6, 10/7/38.] (A) Hold that thou hast in this, for these as we find will eventually produce.

16. (Q) The new Rubber making process, with Donald MacClosky? [See 1564-4, Par. 14-A--16-A, 3/14/39.] (A) This we do not find as being wholly as practical as it has appeared in some ways to be. These we do not find to be necessarily that as would keep the entity from other activities or endeavors.

17. (Q) The procuring of Manganese properties with J. Carson Adkerson, President of the American Manganese Producers Association. (A) These are necessary - and consider properties in Alabama and Tennessee.

18. (Q) Experimenting (in association with MacClosky) with Mrs. Miller's gold slucing or concentrating process, as now being tried in Helen, White County, Georgia? (A) This we would continue, but there needs to be some other processes developed with same to make this the greater or better success.

19. (Q) The HODSON - HIRSCH furnace process for manganese? (A) This is to be considered also, and not lose the hold on same, provided such properties as indicated would be considered.

20. (Q) Should I continue to follow "leads" or do I lack proper discrimination? (A) We would continue to follow leads in these directions.

21. (Q) Will the ESTATE matter of which my mother and I are interested in clearing, be properly adjusted and free from any legal or moral repercussions? and WHAT should my procedure be? Should I retain an attorney? (A) Retain an attorney. But these as we find will, in the very near future, be adjusted in a satisfactory way and manner - if there is the attention of an attorney respecting same.

22. (Q) WOULD it be wise and propitious to ask for a reading on the "LOST SHEEP" MINE and start in search for it this winter or in the spring? (A) In the spring it may be considered.

23. (Q) Will anything ever come from my relations with Charles O. Roos of The Indian Department, and his "Singing Silver Mine" in upper Wisconsin or Minnesota?

1561-8 Page 4

(A) If this is pushed and followed out, this will eventually produce. For there is this lode there. These are, of course, PROVIDED THERE ARE those openings so that this may be carried on - or the search, as well as the activities with same. Hold on to this, and eventually it will come through.

24. (Q) Should I follow an inclination to endeavor to acquire farm land in the Southeast or East, in conjunction with H. S. Diller, for a small community for ourselves and others? If so, what state would be preferable? (A) This would depend upon what is to be the character of the settlement. As we find, this would be considered first, and also as to what type of products would be produced, or as to the type of activity in the vicinity. Of course, activities of the one nature would require, or would be preferable in, one district, while another might be in another. If it's food stuff - these as we find would be better in Georgia or Alabama. If fruits - portions of Alabama or Tennessee. Or, if more the products of the soil, - Arkansas or portions of Oklahoma.

25. (Q) Will good result from an endeavor to promote a closer friendship with Secretary Henry A. Wallace or Senator Burton K. Wheeler? (A) This, of course, is dependent again upon the PURPOSES of same. Either or both of these are to be cultivated by the entity.

26. (Q) Were Henry A. Wallace and I related in a former life experience? (A) As we find, in an Arabian experience - or nomad experience.

27. (Q) First Dynasty in Arabia? (A) Not a first dynasty, but a dynasty in Arabia. [See 1561-8, Par. R5.]

28. (Q) Any further advice at this time? (A) Consider all of these, and follow in the line of those purposes and principles which, as we have indicated, are the motivating influences in the abilities of the entity - if there would be acquired or gained the use of the greater forces for good.
