1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions she has submitted, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes.
3. Now as we find, many of the disturbing influences are rather deep-seated, and are of long standing; and may be said to be chronic or constitutional.
4. Thus, while we may bring a great deal of help, it will require persistence and some time to regenerate the vital forces of the body sufficient to make for other than temporary relief.
5. But if there is the consistent and persistent application, we may take for a great relief to this body, [1777].
6. These are the conditions then as we find them with this body:
7. For a long period there has been a subluxation existent in the lumbar and sacral axis; that has prevented the full or proper circulation to the lower extremities.
8. Thus there has gradually been left in portions of the superficial circulation those conditions or poisons that should have been eliminated through their proper channels.
9. As combined with the sluggishness of the activity of the kidneys, these have caused the disturbance to become more and more aggravated; and we find the veins becoming swollen, - not as varicose so much as the enlarging of the superficial veins along portions of the limbs, especially from the knee down.
10. This also affects or finds effect through the general eliminations and the poisons still carried produces rather a toxic condition.
11. So with the least exertion, whether mental OR physical, we find a great deal of exhaustion results.
1777-1 Page 2
12. This makes for the tendency to prevent disturbing conditions in activity of the body, which produces greater strain upon the nerves and muscles of the locomotory centers.
13. Thus we have rather a cycle of disturbance as related to the lower portion of the extremities and the circulation.
14. This combined with those disturbances where the greater excesses of the acid are formed by the lack of the proper activity or exercise, and the disturbed eliminations, produces greater disturbances through the assimilating system.
15. Hence we find at times or cycles when there is little that agrees with the body in its attempt to satisfy the appetites, these become then rather a disturbing activity.
16. For this causes a still greater disturbance in eliminations.
17. The liver, the kidneys, the pancreas all have become somewhat involved. The more specific condition as we find in the eye or eyesight, in the right eye especially, is a constitutional as well as a specific or acute and organic disturbance.
18. The pressures from the uric acids and the lack of the proper activity through the growth of the glandular forces about those portions of the thyroid, all cause or add or become contributory to the disturbing conditions.
19. As we find, about twice a week we would have the thorough hydrotherapy treatment - hot and cold water - as of Backman's treatments. Keep these consistently for a period of about three weeks.
20. Then leave these off, or have a rest period from these of about ten days. Then begin again with the hydrotherapy. Continue these in this manner for about four or five series, with the ten-day rest period between these.
21. During each ten-day rest period from the hydrotherapy treatments, we would have at least three deep osteopathic manipulations, and some adjustments gradually made in the lumbar and sacral area. Have the four or five series of the hydrotherapy applications - that is, the hot and cold applications, for a three week period. And during the ten-day rest period between each series, have three specific osteopathic adjustments, see?
22. And be mindful of the diet, that the foods are kept very close to an eighty percent alkaline reaction to a twenty percent acid reaction.
23. Thus we should gradually make for a great deal of better reactions through this body; eliminating much of those sources or causes of the poor elimination, reducing the

swelling in the lower extremities, and making for better activity through the glandular forces; and, to be sure, aiding in the eyesight - though here we will necessitate some LOCAL treatments.
24. Ready for questions.
25. (Q) Pain in lower back. (A) As indicated, this has been of long standing - and is that area through which adjustments are to be made.
26. (Q) Partial blindness in one eye - right eye. (A) As indicated, this comes from the excess of poisons; and with the consistent use of some four or five series of the hot and cold applications, with sufficient of the osteopathic adjustments to equalize the system - that is, three treatments during the ten-day rest period from the hydrotherapy - should bring the better conditions.
27. We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " Ass'n file (See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] for Hydrotherapist, and for osteopath.) [Louis H. Backman, Ph.T.; Frank P. Dobbins, D.O.] .]
