You will consider the work in preparing and placing on the market the hair curler, a quantity of which has been prepared in accordance with instructions through the readings and with which experiments suggested through this channel have been performed. You will advise us as to further procedure in perfecting and presenting this product to the public. Ans. Ques.)
1. EC: Yes, we have the Health Home Remedies Corporation and its activities, Thomas B. House and his experiments with the Hair Curler, and the Hair Curler itself.
2. In considering all the experiments, the tests on same should be checked more definitely as to the number of hours or days that the solution is allowed to stand, the heat, the temperature at which the first and second portions of same come off in the distillation, the character of hair on which it is used. These should be checked more accurately.
3. As has been indicated, first begin with the experiments upon real hair, under the various conditions; how long has it (the sample that is tested) been from the head, how much oil, what color, what weight, what shades, and all of these kept as an accurate record.
4. As to how long same, first, requires for the curling, whether only by the combing in; the heat, under what pressure by steam, under what pressure under electronic heat, under what grade or temperature and all of these should be and must be tested if you would know what is to be expected.
5. Then after these experiments have been made, begin by taking some individual who has alive hair. Note its shade, the complexion, the growth, the manners of activity, and begin with the experiments upon this. This will require at least, if it is worked at every day, two to six months to

two years, dependent upon just how much work, how accurate the records are kept of each. You have something! what will you do with it?
6. Ready for questions.
7. (Q) Have the quantities of the curler which have been prepared, and are now in the office, 308-9 Essex Bldg., Norfolk, Va., been prepared properly? (A) As has been indicated, this should not be dependent upon any information here, and that it will tell you what heat you had it! Do you know? How many days, how many hours, how many minutes was it in fermentation? Do you know? These keep records of! Not that this will hand you this or that. You must work for it!
8. (Q) What is the most effective way to apply the hair curler? (A) As just indicated. Begin by the tests first on natural hair, the various shades. Test each one of them. Know what it will do. Then when it has not complied with that ye think is correct, THEN ask and it'll tell you what to do with it! but until you do something about it, we don't give you anything!
9. (Q) What is the principal element in the solution which is condensed from the steam that is driven off from the fermented bark and seed solution? (A) Silium [?] [Sodium?] Salicylate Acidity!
10. (Q) Should we use Bay Rum with the distilled solution or would it be better to use pure alcohol? (A) Bay Rum, as has been given - this is what is best to use in your first tests.
11. (Q) What proportions should be used? (A) Sufficient to preserve same. This you get by tests as to the specific gravity, as to the fermentation - which is as has just been given dependent upon how long the fermentation has been before it is distilled.
12. (Q) Should the Bay Rum be added to the distilled solution at any special temperature, or just when it has cooled off enough to prevent the alcohol from evaporating? (A) Just as has been cooled off, or rather a temperature of 70.
13. (Q) Should any other properties be added to the solution which we now have to make it more effective? (A) Test what you have and then what is lacking may be given!
14. (Q) Just what is the action of this solution on the hair? Does it affect the growth of the hair? (A) As has been indicated, when we reach these stages of same there will.be given that as is necessary for the application to scalp to preserve not only the color, the
1800-29 Page 3
tone, the shade, but the growth of the hair also. This if it is in proper form does not affect the color nor its growth; rather helpful. The activity of same is to enter each pore, for it (the hair) has what may be termed a pore or opening all the way through. It affects the sides of the walls; causes it not to kink but to become pliable and bend to those forms in which it is set.
15. (Q) What would you suggest as a name for this curler? (A) Let's have something before we have a name!
16. (Q) What would be the best temperature to maintain for the solution of seed and bark while the fermentation is in progress? (A) About 101-102.
17. (Q) Why was this solution recommended to individuals if it is dangerous to use as indicated in last reading? (A) Because it was sought, because it was sought as to what would produce. It does!
18. (Q) Should an electric dryer be used on the hair after it has been treated with the curler? (A) As given, these should be tested - some with the hot air, some with electric, some with one way, some another. These shall be made, if ye will gain any knowledge of what ye are doing!
19. (Q) Any other suggestions? (A) Begin with this as has been indicated. Follow it through in each of its stages, each of the steps. For ye have something very much worth while, if you want to make money!
