1. HLC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:

2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2429].

3. As we find, there are conditions that cause disturbances; preventing the better normal functioning.

4. While their causes arise primarily from an unbalanced equilibrium in the glandular forces of the body, we find there are also involvements in the present of the functioning of the organs - and the effects that are produced by the particular character of disturbance in the functioning, to the other portions or other organisms of the body.

5. Thus there is produced rather a complex disturbance with this body.

6. Then, these are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2429] we are speaking of:

7. The blood supply indicates disturbances with the eliminations, especially as related to the character of activity in the kidneys.

8. Thus we have a disturbed condition in the WHOLE of the hepatic circulation, and sympathetically disturbing the organs of circulation - or centers of circulation - to extremities and to the sensory organism.

9. In the nerve system these conditions produce a character of pressure on portions of the system from which the sympathetic and cerebrospinal centers coordinate, as to hinder the circulation - especially the superficial - bringing, through this disturbance, the acute pains - or tiredness at times - as indicated in the limbs, ankles, through the knees and hips and across the small of the back at times. At other times we find a reflex condition through

2429-1 Page 2

the sensory force; affecting eyes, hearing, and the smell - or odors; these are affected in many ways under different distresses. For instance, at times a veil or shadow across the vision; at others a burning sensation in the lids, and the like; drying in the throat at times; and the odors of things become accentuated, as does taste of various properties at different periods.

10. As to the effect upon the organs of the body - there was first an unbalanced condition in the active forces of the glandular system, as indicated; especially as related to assimilation. This has not assumed proportions that may be said to be other than diabetic in nature, though not true diabetic - more of a combination of what may be termed diabetic with a tendency towards the accumulation of lymph - or dropsical effects.

11. Thus at periods - throughout the abdominal area, especially near to the periods for the activity of the organs of pelvis - we have the inability of keeping total equilibrium; or there is a bit of nausea, with heaviness through the whole of the pelvic area, and through the abdominal area. It is an incoordination between the upper and the lower hepatic circulation; with poor eliminations, or quite varied as to the effect - at times the activities of the alimentary canal would appear to be such that there is little or no activity of the lymph through the colon, while at other periods there is the appearance of too great an excess of lymph. These are the reflex reactions as we find throughout the body.

12. Then, in making the changes, all of these effects as created upon the nervous system are to be taken into consideration - the reflex conditions to the organs, as to the liver and kidneys, the conditions in the sensory system as well as to the digestive forces and the heart's activity, or the better circulation of an equilibrium or of an equalized nature.

13. First, then - we would give that there be begun the GENTLE manipulations, osteopathically given, for the corrections of conditions in the cerebrospinal system; through the lumbar and sacral area, and the 9th and 10th dorsal to the 7th and 8th.

14. Give these about twice a week until six or seven such adjustments have been taken. Then leave off a week, then take them again. Continue taking them in this manner for at least three or four such series, see?

15. For these treatments we would suggest Waters.

16. When the second or third of the adjustments are given, begin with minute doses of Sweet Spirits of Nitre - this to

be taken about six drops in half a glass of water TWICE each week.

17. Also about twice each week, but not on the same days as the Nitre is taken, take Watermelon Seed Tea, prepared in this manner: Crush or cut a teaspoonful of the seed and pour a pint of boiling water over same. Let this steep as tea for at least thirty minutes. Cool, and drink half of the quantity - then the other half would be taken the next day, you see; keeping it in a cool place in the meantime. Take this quantity each week, but only half of it at the time, you see, and on opposite days from taking the Nitre. This would be as a tonic to the active forces of the system.

18. When close to the Periods, and there is heaviness through the abdominal area and across the back, apply an equal combination of Mutton Tallow (melted), Spirits of Turpentine and Spirits of Camphor. Massage this gently into the abdomen (low down) and into the back, then apply three to four thicknesses of heavy flannel - with some of the properties put on same - and then an electric pad over same to keep warm until the body is thoroughly relaxed. However, when such packs are used, leave off the Nitre and Watermelon Seed Tea - that is, do not take either of these on those days that the packs would be used, you see.

19. For the condition of the eyes - we would use at home, by self, the violet ray; using the bulb applicator and the double eye applicator. Use it about once or twice a week. Do not use the eye applicator more than half a minute. Use the bulb applicator over the area from the waist, or 9th dorsal upward and downward on the spine - for at least a minute or minute and a half.

20. Do this consistently.

21. In the matter of the diet - keep away from fried foods. Let the meats consist rather of fish, fowl or lamb. Not so much of dried beans or the like, but rather the fresh or the frozen variety are preferable.

22. Have plenty of sea food at all times, of all characters, - but never any of these fried.

23. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables, and fruits.

24. These are the preferable diets for the body, but keep away from cakes or carbonated waters.

25. (Q) Is the frequent swelling of feet and ankles due to a kidney condition? (A) Due to the conditions in the lumbar and sacral area, to which particular attention should be given in making the adjustments; as well as the properties to be taken internally.

26. (Q) What causes, and what should be done for recent

2429-1 Page 4

pains in both shoulder blades and in spine; also a spot in the spine that is painful to the touch? (A) These have been indicated in the adjustments, as well as in the better eliminations to be set up by the use of the properties indicated; also we find that it would be well to take enemas or colonic irrigations occasionally. If we will do these things as indicted, we will find much bettered conditions for this body.

27. We are through for the present. Copy to Self " " Ass'n file (See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] for Osteopath: Dr. Lulu Irene Waters [Hare], 1707 Columbia Rd., Washington, D.C.). ton, D.C.).
