1. GC: You will go over this body carefully, examine it thoroughly, and tell me the conditions you find at the present time; giving the cause of the existing conditions, also suggestions for help and relief of this body. You will answer the questions, as I ask them:
2. EC: Yes, we have the body here, [2693].
3. Now as we find, while there is in the present somewhat of a complication of disturbances, with the correction of the basic causes much of this should be entirely eliminated from the body.
4. We find that these have to do with the nervous system as it is at present influenced by pressures of a definite nature existing in the cerebrospinal system, as related to the activity of the sympathetic system with organs of the body.
5. These, then, are the conditions as we find them with this body, [2693] we are speaking of:
6. In the blood supply we find indications of pressures existing in the cerebrospinal system, thus deflecting the energies and activities with organs, especially in the present as related to that activity in the lower portion of the stomach, or through the pylorus end and throughout the duodenum. Also the upsetting of the assimilating and digestive system has much to do with the nature or character of the conditions in the blood stream.
7. Thus, through these pressures, there is caused a change in the activity of the gastric flow; producing excesses of gas. Some foods are not assimilated, others do not have sufficient of the hydrochloric reaction, and at others periods there is the lack of sufficient in the upper portion for the continuation of the alkalinity necessary when passing through the jejunum.
8. This produces some complications, causing a thinning - or the lack of vitality, the lack of energies. Thus there is not sufficient supply of those vitamins or vital energies to
2693-1 Page 2
supply the needs of the body.
9. Hence the periods even of melancholia, the headaches, the effect to throat and at times even the soft tissue of the nasal passages; and all of these become reflected in the general nervous system.
10. In the nerve forces of the body we find the sources, as well as the results; or the effect as well as affectations in disturbing influences.
11. We find that pressures exist in areas specifically where the cerebrospinal and the sympathetic nervous systems join energies, as it were, in impulse for activities to portions of the assimilating system.
12. These are the results of outside pressures, that have been partially removed; yet there has gradually grown, through the overanxieties of the body, forms of lesions which exist in the areas of the upper dorsal, from the 1st, 2nd and 3rd even to the 6th dorsal.
13. With this contraction and the deflection has come the activities to the gastric flow, and thus the nervous digestion.
14. There are also those pressures that must be taken into consideration through the cervical area, and in the lumbar and coccyx areas. These are reflex in the main, but must be taken into consideration when the corrections are made.
15. As to the effects produced upon the organs themselves of the body - while the brain reflexes are very good, the pressures through the cervical, and from those reflexes at times from the pressures produced by the excess of gastric conditions - or the gases not only through the upper portion of body (that is, the duodenum and pylorus) but also in the portions of the alimentary canal and throughout the colon - area indicated oft in the overheating, or the tendency for a drying condition through portions of the colon, which is oft indicated in the caecum and ascending area of the colon. Thus, these must be considered as applications are made for improvements.
16. As to the activities indicated through the nerve tensions upon the soft tissue, or the lymph AND emunctory circulation as supplied through the greater activity of the sympathetic and vegetative nervous system - these cause the conditions that are reflected in the headaches, the stomach conditions, the effects in the throat and nasal passages, and at times the "all over" feeling as of great depression. However, the organs themselves, save sympathetically, are very good through bronchi, throat, lungs and larynx.
17. Heart's activity at times becomes irregular, because of pressures that have been made upon the balance and the 1st
2693-1 Page 3
and 2nd cervical to the impulses in the reflexes in brain AND the auditory system, as well as ALL of the sensory forces.
18. Thus those periods of depressions, when there is dizziness, and when there is the feeling as if the body would whirl or turn within itself. These are reflex from those pressures that have been indicated, and the form of lesions in the upper dorsal and the deflections in sacral and lumbar, as well as the coccyx end of nerve forces.
19. The activity in stomach itself is more sympathetic than organic, as is the rest of the activity; though naturally the liver and the kidneys at times become involved in the disturbances.
20. As we find, we would begin with these:
21. Begin first with osteopathic adjustments, with special reference to the upper dorsal area. We would RELAX the dorsal area with WET HEAT before attempting to make corrections. This may be done by wringing towels out of very hot water and applying for a few minutes before these adjustments are attempted. Do this in the office of the one making the correction, and not a long time before the adjustments are made. We would recommend one such as Shackleford.
22. Take at least ten or twelve such adjustments in the first series.
23. After the third or fourth adjustment, have a colonic irrigation - PROFESSIONALLY GIVEN - to clarify or purify the colon and alimentary canal.
24. After the first series of the adjustments, rest from them some ten days or two weeks; then have at least six to eight more such adjustments.
25. Do, at least every three weeks, in the beginning of the treatments, have the colonic irrigation.
26. Begin almost immediately - from the very first, you see - taking small doses, three to five drops in water twice or three times a day, of Glyco-Thymoline OR Lavoris; to act as an intestinal antiseptic. Keep this up for four to five days, leave off a day and then take again.
27. After the meals take half a teaspoonful of Milk of Bismuth and two to five drops or Elixir of Lactated Pepsin stirred together in half a glass of water.
28. In the diets - not too much of heavy or very rich foods, but this as an indication; not that this would be all, but merely as an outline:
29. Mornings - either a whole grain cereal, well cooked, with Milk or cream, OR citrus fruits. However, DO NOT take the citrus fruits AND the cereals at the same meal; rather
2693-1 Page 4
alternate these from day to day. Rice cakes, corn cakes or the like, with syrup or honey occasionally, are well to be taken.
30. Noons - especially some raw vegetable; as lettuce, celery, carrots or the like, with preferably vegetable soup or the like.
31. Evenings - not too heavy, but fish, fowl or lamb - these NEVER fried - and well-cooked vegetables.
32. Do these and we will bring bettered conditions for the body.
33. Then, the mental attitude:
34. Make that activity in self, mentally, toward applying those principles or tenets of creative living that are a part of the daily environs. Make these practical; not merely as passive experiences or as good theories - that is, be not only good, but be good FOR something; not as some great deed or undertaking, but it is day by day, little by little, line upon line, precept upon precept; just being kind, just being a little more patient with self, with others - not a passive thing, but an active CHRISTIAN living.
35. Ready for questions.
36. We are through for the present. Two copies to Self (one for Dr. Irvin) Copy to Ass'n file (See extra sheet of directions [which was enclosed] for Dr. J. R. Shackleford, Jackson Bldg., Nashville, Tenn.) n.)
