1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [3731] present in this room, and all his business associations and relations. You will answer the questions which he will ask regarding all of these.
2. EC: Yes, we have the body, the enquiring mind, [3731] present in this room - associations and relations. Ready for questions.
3. (Q) Is there any hope of getting any of the money back which I have lost through the western mining venture? (A) There is the possibility, with some developments that are still PROSPECTIVE, that there would be the opportunity to recoup or recover some of those investments in this venture. These, as we find, necessarily hinge upon the activities or the endeavors of those, or others, whom the body itself has little control of, and only little influence with, yet circumstances and conditions may - and their PROSPECTS are well, that within another eight to twelve months there will be some prospects, and GOOD prospects, in this direction.
4. (Q) Can this be done through Alban's efforts? (A) This can be ASSISTED in and through Alban's efforts.
5. (Q) Is Alban making any effort to help me? Is he sincere? (A) The sincerity and the effort has been more than existent in the present, as we find same, yet these efforts - with those INFLUENCES from other associations and other directions - CAN be, or MAY be, spurred on by the efforts of the body itself to insist upon the necessity of, as well as the possibilities of, carrying on - see?
6. (Q) If not, suggest how I might work this out. (A) As has been suggested, this the better opportunity, the better plan, for working same out.
7. (Q) In this connection, is there anything to Warwick's efforts? Shall I join forces with him in his investment trust plan or proceed independently? (A) There should be, as we find, due consideration given to Warwick's plan. While these plans necessitate the activity
3731-1 Page 2
on the part of other groups whom the body may influence, yet with the involved condition in many ways this would hardly be ADVISABLE under the present situation - though WERE the same character of plan operated or fostered by self, with others whom the body might associate self with in the East - or with some whom the body HAS interested self with in former times - taking much of the plan and later JOINING forces with Warwick, would make for a better plan.
8. (Q) Direct me to someone to finance the preliminary expense of putting together the Investment Trust idea, embracing the purchase of Royalties and development of other properties, mining or oil. (A) These, as we find, by the body itself might be handled through individuals in Dayton, Ohio, or in that vicinity. Especially through those channels WITH which the body is familiar in both investments and in the associations of legal phases of the activities of groups or individuals, for in much of the plans or ideals as may be set in an investment for handling of such securities, or such progress of developments, these - or this vicinity, this idea would be best adaptable, as we find, to individuals in that particular vicinity - because of THIS reason: There has existed in this region, and among many of the group who may be interested, such an investment trust, and there is - then - that IDEA in the minds of many capable of joining in and assisting in the developing of such an idea. Then, through those channels in which the body has been interested, has met, has made contacts, make such contacts - see?
9. (Q) I am inclined to favor a fifty percent capital investment in producing royalties (to provide for dividend and sinking fund requirements), and small percentage of balance of capital to be invested in well selected and "before production" royalties or leases, and balance in carefully selected mining properties. Is this workable and sound, and how is best way to handle it? (A) The IDEA as is set forth is well, sound, and practical. There will be the necessity, as we find, with conference and inter-conference with individual who may be interested in the idea, that some minor CHANGES in the plan may be made, especially in the percent as is invested in that of the royalty or sinking fund portion of the amount collected, taken, or investments made in - see?
10. (Q) How can I handle the Grandy note quickly? (A) As we would find, the best manner would be in some of those associates, or with some of those associates in Richmond or vicinity.
11. (Q) Where can I place the Riverside mortgage, or who
3731-1 Page 3
would be interested in buying the property? Is it worth while to give it any further consideration or effort? (A) This, under the existent conditions, rather an uphill job. While we would not give too much dependence in the possibilities of the disposing of same, we would not wholly give up the idea; for in making the contacts, and in making those associations necessary for those of the trust fund or trust agreements, or the trusts that may be established, we will find especially among those that the body would contact - especially in Springfield, that are associated with those of the publishing concerns there - interested in this special interest, see? Corbin.
12. (Q) Is there anything to Mullins Rotary Window? What is best way to handle it for quick financial results? How could I raise preliminary expense fund quickly? Shall I stick to it or not? (A) Don't let it slip away. Stick to it, even though there is only a small interest held. This, as we find, may be handled best through those interests in Chicago that are known as a trust fund, handled by McGrath interests, that are interested in just such undertakings. In the article, or in the idea itself, we will find - as WE see - there will be some changes made before it can be a marketable or practical thing. To give the once-over, would be to say there are some changes necessary for its practibility. These may be ironed out, and the necessary funds, necessary capital for the preliminary work in ironing same out, as we find, may be obtained through these channels.
13. (Q) Shall I undertake the Hutchison proposition? Whom could I sell any of it to quickly? (A) This an INTERESTING, but not a practical or IDEAL proposition in its present status, as we find.
14. (Q) To whom shall I present storage matter mentioned to me by Tuckscher? Shall I go ahead with Stribling or Lowery? Either or both? (A) With both.
15. (Q) To whom shall I present the Ragged Island and Hog Island properties, either or both? (A) There are interests in Washington that have RECENTLY had some interest in the Hog Island Syndicated work there, that may be interested in same - but this is a bad proposition at its BEST! WE would not go too far with THIS.
16. (Q) Suggest any reasonably quick way of handling the Millner lots whereby they will produce any cash returns. (A) These, if they may be handled at all, may be handled - as we find - through the Graves interest, who have already been interested in this portion of the country, or the Crane
3731-1 Page 4
interests. One if Chicago, the other in Elizabeth, N.J.
17. (Q) What are the possibilities of the Overstreet Urn matter, and what is the best method of handling it? (A) We do not find that.
18. (Q) Is the Overstreet assessment company worth further consideration? If so, what is the best method of procedure, and from whom could we get the preliminary working fund? (A) Keep it in mind, but don't put too much time on it. Not yet.
19. (Q) What is the best method of procedure, and from whom could we get the preliminary working fund? (A) Don't given too much time to this, as given. Work on some of the others, for there are some of these that may be made live issues - while this would be too long drawn out.
20. (Q) Is the Brown resort proposition worth considering? If so, what is the best method of procedure, and to whom shall I present it? (A) Worth considering, but there are a great many hindrances in the proposition itself, and would require a great deal of study, preliminary work. This, however, would be worth holding to until interest such as the DODGE interest of Detroit may be had to look into same.
21. (Q) Is there anything to the Calageri furniture matter? If so, what is the best method of procedure, and to whom shall I present it for reasonably quick results? (A) As we would find, this would be rather a long drawn out matter, rather than for quick results. There has been, and is still under consideration, a COMBINATION of interests which involve many of the larger manufacturing concerns in particular lines, that THIS might be made a portion of. In the handling of this, to open the issues for same, we would consider those that may be handled through the Carolina Wood, or through Kahn or kindred interests that HAVE been or are associated in same. We would see Kahn in this matter.
22. (Q) Suggest how I shall meet the pressing need for working capital and personal funds. (A) Make use of some of those things that have been given as for pressing needs, both those of the quick return as may be made from either those INTERESTS that are held or by the opening of those negotiations for those of the trust fund, or for those of DEVELOPMENTS in and through such a trust fund.
