1. LBC: You are asleep and will be able to tell us what we want to know. You have before you [3983], ..., Alabama.
2. EC: Yes, we have him here, [3983 ..., Alabama.
3. (Q) Now I want you to go over him carefully, examine him thoroughly and tell us what is the matter with him, if anything. Well tell us what you find. (A) Begin on this body here from the head. Beginning from the action of the blood or nervous system from the cervical, come along the whole range here of the cerebrospinal nervous system. We have no trouble at all through the head except the condition in the nasal, a little catarrhal here, which is caused from the reflex conditions of the condition in the cervical region but here at the sixth and seventh dorsal we have some lesions. These lesions produce spasmodically to the lungs and nasal through the larynx - congestion, produces a shortness of breath, filling up through the lungs, chokes up the air cells of the lungs, by filling them too full of blood; it will hurt to get it out. Quickness of breath escaping there with excessive heat or cold or anything that produces congestion here. That comes from the sympathetic from the secondary plexus to the sixth and seventh dorsal, which produces a condition here in the lower part of the lung; a condition or tickling in the throat, produces a cough, choking up of the cells of the lungs. That is not all the time, only spasmodic.
The body in itself is healthy, strong, big, robust outside here but this lesion here at the sixth and seventh dorsal produces this condition through the lower part of the lung. The lesions are here all the time, the effect does not stay all time; the blood exhausts itself, throws it out, relaxes, comes back to its normal condition, then it passes off.
4. (Q) Well, any other trouble you find? (A) That is all the trouble with this body.
5. (Q) What treatment would you suggest? (A) Remove the lesion, remove the spasmodic condition. In moving the lesion you will take this away. Put something there in its place. Manipulation along the spine,
3983-1 Page 2
electrical treatment, it will strengthen it, get the spasmodic condition out, take it away. Something healing to the lung. Use Iodine. Remove these conditions here will take from the inflammation, break up this congestion through the lungs, the air cells, produces an inflammation and soreness here, a hurting up to the throat. Soreness all through the chest, pressure. That is when we need the Iodine. Something to stimulate; get the blood in and out, you see.
Same thing we have here to the head. We have the condition to the head, to the nasal capacity [cavity?] here, right here, in the head. This catarrhal condition here, choking up, wheezing at times. We have from the reflex produces to the nerve centers in the front of the head.
Now the lesions along the spine come in contact with this through the nerve centers, through the cervical (second and third) to the neck, around the chin up the face, relaxation of the whole system will assist in removing the trouble from the spine and from the lung. Then we have to take something locally to remove the trouble in the head. Govern from the condition in the head not to produce a reflex on the nerve centers, nerve system to hurt it. Inhale something through the nose.
[Following is the 2nd text version of 3983-1 as taken down by another steno.]
1. EC: Beginning on this body at the head we find an abnormal condition of the blood and the nervous system, especially, in the nerve supply at the cervical region and the whole range of the cerebrospinal system. There is no unusual trouble in the head except the reflex trouble and the trouble we find in the nasal tract. This is of a catarrhal nature. This is caused from reflex conditions in the cervical region, also, in the dorsal region. These lesions in the dorsal region produce a spasmodic irritation of the nasal tract, larynx and air passages in the lung, which result in the congestion at times, followed by a shortness of breath and a gurgling in the lungs and filling up, so to speak. There is a choking up of the air cells in the lungs caused by any extremes of temperature; too much hot or too much cold is liable to bring this about.
2. This is all through the sympathetic system and secondary cardiac plexus is also involved. The principle lesions are located at the sixth and seventh dorsal vertebra and produces directly the condition we find in the lower part of
3983-1 Page 3
the lungs, in fact, all through the lungs. We have a tickling in the throat which produces a cough; this is not all the time but only comes spasmodic. This engorgement of the air cells of the lungs, also, comes at certain times.
3. The body, as a whole, is strong and robust, large, but this lesion here at the sixth and seventh dorsal is responsible for the majority of the trouble that he complains of. The lesions are here all the time but their effects are not. When nature exhausts itself in throwing out waste then the overtaxed condition gives away to the exhausted nerve force, a poor circulation which these lesions continually produce. In treating this body first remove the lesions and the spasmodic condition will pass away. Manipulation will remove this, manipulate the spine; deep manipulation. Electric treatment would, also, strengthen it at this point. Internally - Iodine, also, for this spasmodic and aggravated condition we might have to resort to Heroin which is not to be taken unless necessary.
4. After these conditions are removed in the spine the inflammatory areas will disappear, will break up the congestion throughout the lung and air cells will expand properly. This hurting in the throat and soreness throughout the chest, this sense of pressure that he feels at times will disappear. He needs stimulation to get this excess of blood from the air cells.
5. Sometimes we have this reflex condition noticeable in the head, due to this catarrhal condition in the air passages. He becomes choked up wheezes. We have this trouble reflex and produces trouble in the front part of the head. This condition has involved slightly the nerve centers in the cervical region at the second and third cervical. This should be thoroughly relaxed, which will result if all this is carried out in a thorough relaxation of the whole system. This will assist nature in removing trouble from the spine, from the lung.
6. We might, also, take something locally for this catarrhal condition by inhalation.
