1. EC: Yes, we have the entity and those conditions as surround or affect the body, [4798].
2. Now, we find there is rather the complication of disorders as affect the body in the present. There are those conditions of the specific nature that prevent at times the coordination through the cerebrospinal and sympathetic nerve system, which in its reaction causes those spasmodic reactions in the nerve system. There are also those lymphatic conditions that affect in the present the lymph circulation, and the respiration and pulsation of the body. The latter are of an acute condition of a temporary nature, which - with the proper precautions in activities, diet, the preventing of the taking of cold, and the eliminations kept above the normal - will soon disappear. These we would keep active with a mild form of stimuli to the respiratory system, especially from the digestive and lymph area, as a mild form of camomile tea, or saffron tea, that is palliative to the digestive system, and that will make for the proper eliminations, preventing the accumulations of drosses that would affect the system in any way by not being eliminated; keeping the intestinal tract rather active, keeping the body quiet, and the diet rather that of the liquid diet. Plenty of the juices of fruits; little or no nuts. Soups or mild broths, with little vegetable - no meats.
3. In those conditions as of the more specific nature, these - as we find - are of longer standing, and while not wholly prenatal conditions are an effect of conditions where the forces of the body are in the position of tendencies; through pressures that have existed, and do exist, particularly in the lumbar and sacral region; so that, with the developments of the body, the coordination between sympathetic and cerebrospinal nerve forces has become more exaggerated, rather than coordinating with the general
4798-1 Page 2
development of the body.
4. With the nerve forces builded up, with the corrections of those conditions existent in lumbar and sacral regions, and with the alignment throughout the cerebrospinal system, these conditions - as we find - SHOULD disappear. While there will be a tendency for these conditions to last from period to period, yet - as the DEVELOPMENTS of the general physical forces in system by the proper corrections of those pressures in the lumbar and sacral these we would make through the proper adjustments osteopathically given, and through the giving of medicinal properties such as will be found in those of the Maypop and of those forces that are combined in that as has been termed Mayblossom Bitters. These, as we find, will cause a better coordination through the cerebrospinal and sympathetic system. That we would do. The manipulations and corrections should begin as soon as the conditions at present existent are eliminated from the system. Those should be given, as we would find, at least twice each week until a series of at least twelve to thirteen has been given; rest then for an equal period, and give another series of corrections. During the whole period we would give those properties of the Mayblossom Bitters, beginning with half a teaspoonful twice each day - and should the attacks occur, then give the FULL teaspoonful three times each day.
5. Let the diet be rather that that is easily assimilated by the body, so that we have no refuse forces from indigestion or undigested foods through the intestinal tract. Tend to keep the eliminations through this in rather an OVER-active state; NOT so as to cause irritation, to be sure. This may be done as much by the type and the character of the stimuli given with the manipulative forces as with other properties, and be more effective with the body. Ready for questions.
6. (Q) Is this condition curable? (A) As we have given, we would find it so. With the proper adjustments in the lumbar and sacral, with the proper alignments so that the nerve reaction are NOT of that nature as to PREVENT normalcy, with the developments through the thirteenth to fourteenth year of age we should see the full termination of the attacks, provided the NERVE forces are builded properly. Those properties given in the Mayblossom Bitters are not of a drug forming, nor are they of the nature as sedative producing - such as bromides and such natures - but STIMULATe the glands and the nerve system in such a manner as to produce a nearer NORMAL reaction in the system.
7. (Q) Should the Mayblossom Bitters be begun at once, or
4798-1 Page 3
when the osteopathic manipulations are started? (A) Should be when the osteopathic manipulations are started, for all the after effects of those present conditions existent should be eliminated from the system - see?
8. (Q) How long will it take to correct the present condition? (A) Three to five days before there would be no DANGER of after effects. Be mindful that the body does not take cold - see?
9. (Q) Has the throat trouble any connection with this disease? (A) The throat trouble is rather that of an inter-between. The refuses from the pressures that have existed, and do exist in the sacral and upper dorsal, make for a tendency of irritation, that with the general conditions, see? With the specific conditions that exist, these have created those that make for the ACUTE forces in the present conditions. With the CORRECTIONS, as have been outlined, we will find these would correct themselves.
We would suggest such an one as Shackleford*. We are through for the present.
* [GD's note: Dr. (?) Shackleford was an M.D., D.O. on the staff of the osteopathic hospital in Richmond, Va. [Not the same as Dr. J. R. Shackleford of Nashville, Tenn. referred to in other readings.] I remember him visiting Cayce Hospital while it was in operation.]
