1. GC: You will have before you the body and the enquiring mind of [5541], present in this room, who seeks advice, counsel and guidance, regarding his business associations or investments in Virginia Beach, Va. You will answer the questions which he will ask regarding these, especially the Pinewood Hotel, Traymore Apts., and Beach Club.
2. EC: We have the body, the enquiring mind, [5541], especially in reference to investments in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
3. In considering investments in Virginia Beach, Virginia, as well as in any other portion of the country, consideration must be given the present conditions in an economic way that exist in all portions of the country. There is seen that in the immediate vicinity of this portion of the State, conditions have not yet been as bad as they do exist and have existed in other portions, or many other portions, of the country. The greater period of distresses in relationship to investments, as we will find, will be through the Fall of the present year and the Spring of the coming year, after which - or the coming season - there will be the tendency for bettered conditions as related to investments in Virginia Beach and its environs. The possibilities, and those things that tend to make for the place itself to become well known, and the property or investments to become valuable, will be found to be on the increase after the opening of next season. There are many things that are to be considered in this direction, especially for the interests that have been had by Laskin and associates.
4. As is seen, there is little or no use in attempting to appeal to those of the SURROUNDING territory for their consideration, save in a very few instances. The necessity, then, is for the body to interest others that are capable, in a measure, to take conditions into their own hands for the developing of interests that would make for many, as
5541-2 Page 2
well as the associates of Laskin, that that may be expected from the efforts already expended, and to insure the holding and keeping of those interests these should be quietly worked out, especially that idea that has been approached in a portion of the territory being turned into the cinema interests, or the addition of such an interest in the vicinity would enable the body and associates to realize the greater of the conditions that may make for the greater expansion or advancement, and through such a cooperative activity bring to the body and associates those proper returns for all that has been invested in this territory.
5. With the years that are to come, conditions that are to arise, as we find, eventually - and this within the next thirty years - Norfolk, with its environs, is to be the chief port on the East coast, this not excepting Philadelphia or New York; the second being rather in the New England area.
6. Ready for questions.
7. (Q) After this season, will it pay to keep Beach Club and Hotel open? (A) As we find, beginning with the coming season - that is, next year - these will be all on the upgrade, rather than the tendency of lagging behind.
8. (Q) Will I sell the apartments as I am figuring? (A) May be well; but, as we would find, while these may be sold in the manner that has been figured, it would be well that such other interests be maintained that there may be the proper returns for the time and the effort and the money expended.
9. (Q) What is the future of Virginia Beach? (A) This, as we find, would require a great deal of speculation on the part of individuals. As WE would find, and as we would give, of all the resorts that are in the East coast, Virginia Beach will be the first and the longest lasting of the increasing of the population, valuation, and activities. Hence, as we would give, the future is GOOD.
10. (Q) Is it advisable for my son [4246] to stay here and take care of the properties? (A) Beginning the first of the coming season, we would give, it would be most advisable.
11. (Q) Will the climate here agree with him? (A) If the activities physically, and the activities in the mental, are such that there is more of the pleasant surroundings, it would agree with him; for, as is known by the body from its own experience, it is very necessary that individuals - in their activities physical AND mental - make up their own minds as to what to EXPECT! and there will be
5541-2 Page 3
the turn of self in all endeavors in that direction! So, in considering the conditions, there are some things physically that need attention with the body, especially the soft tissue membranes - that the climate has been, from the altitude and the character of the climate, at times DEPRESSING; but these will sooner or later necessitate some personal consideration in ANY place.
12. (Q) Will it be advisable for him, or beneficial, to stay here the year round? (A) Beginning with that period, yes.
13. (Q) What is the future of Pinewood Park? (A) That depends upon the character of developments that are to make for the greater expansions in its immediate vicinity. If these were to remain much in the line as has been the expanding portions in the last few years, these would not advance for some time. With the changing of conditions, that will bring for the changing of the environs around, these will prove to be the most VALUABLE of the properties in the vicinity, for they offer OPPORTUNITIES in so many VARIED directions.
14. (Q) Is the doctor [E. P. Brenner, D.C.?] the right man whom I have in mind to employ for the Health Institute? (A) There should be consideration given this in every detail, that there is the proper connection in all the circles that the body is to operate in conjunction with, as far as the medical fraternity is concerned. As to the ABILITIES, these are not ALWAYS sufficient - but the moral life, the home life, also must be considered. If these are found to be of that nature that they fit with that which would be builded IN the surroundings, then this must eventually become an IDEAL place for such expansions, that will make not only Virginia Beach a year round HEALTH resort, but a year round program for visitations and for the health activities as well. We would hold, then, to that ideal that self has been BADLY construed, BADLY misunderstood. Do not hold these as grudges, for they will only grow and grow - if they are held against others. Do that which is known by self to be the manner in which SELF would like to be treated under SIMILAR circumstance, and we will find there will come the reward. While these have been such in the past as to only bring that which has brought many a misunderstanding, even heartache at times, these are near the end - if the body will but remain faithful!
15. (Q) What is meant by "if the body will but remain faithful"? (A) To the ideal! That's what was given! Considering the
5541-2 Page 4
other fellow, the fellow man, the conditions as surround.
